JPG background removal: a smart hack with Photoshop

I launched my new wordpress theme a couple days ago and I applied a very nice technique to remove the background from the jewel image on the theme’s header.

Let’s get that same JPG image I used for the logo (the original is a bit larger I guess). As you see, it has a white background.
