WSDL - perhaps the AJAX missing part?

I was thinking about what I said the other day about Twitter. It really opened my mind towards the power of web services. They are a wonderful tool once you get the chance to watch them in action. But what does this have to do with AJAX, you ask?

AJAX, despite being a plain old ‘new concept’, revolutionized the whole web because we saw it in action in Gmail for example. Web applications started showing up and today we can acknowledge that pretty well, there’s a new concept of social life nowadays. Yet, developers wanted to implement AJAX further away from just the current project. They wanted to interact with other applications and when I acknowledged that AJAX alone couldn’t handle it I fell a bit sad because that was quite a limitation.

Now we have web services and WSDL. This quite new concept breaks the limits of creativity and potencial of our entire way of developing. It really connects everyone in the way that web applications can now be almost like physically connected Imagine two hands together through the fingers. That’s how I see the state of the web now.
